Learn about the Symantec research teams below.
Security Technology and Response (STAR) is the Symantec division responsible for the innovation and development of our security technologies, which address protection in five areas: file, network, behavior, reputation, and remediation. Within Symantec, Security Technology and Response (STAR) oversees the research and development efforts for all of our malware security technologies. These form the core protection capabilities of Symantec’s corporate and consumer security products.
A team of highly skilled researchers and analysts power DeepSight, Symantec’s cloud-hosted threat intelligence service that provides both strategic and technical intelligence. Drawing from Symantec’s broad portfolio of security products, as well as adversary intelligence operations, DeepSight teams are positioned across the globe. They enrich, verify and analyze collected data, connecting seemingly disparate indicators into campaigns and when possible, with known actors and underpinning motivations. Finished intelligence products, including DeepSight Managed Adversary and Threat Intelligence (MATI) as well as Direct Threat Research (DTR) reports, are actionable and made available via a web portal. Technical intelligence can be ingested into existing applications via datafeeds or restful APIs.
Applying artificial intelligence to analyze of over 3.7 billion lines of telemetry, Symantec offers the broadest and deepest set of threat intelligence in the industry. This level of visibility across endpoint, email, and web traffic allows us to discover and block advanced targeted attacks that would otherwise go undetected.
As Symantec's global research organization, Symantec Research Labs (SRL) has played a leading role in exploring many cutting-edge technologies now commercialized across Symantec's many product areas. Such technologies from the group include targeted attack protection, reputation based security, industry-leading rootkit protection, cloud based security services, and some of the industry's earliest behavioral protection technologies. SRL is currently active in many research areas including privacy, cloud, insider threat detection, predictive analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), identity, artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning, autonomous response, trust, key management, network protocols, and of course fighting malware. SRL pursues much of this research openly with many partners in universities and beyond.
There is a lot more going on in the Cloud than meets the eye. The 2019 CSTR describes how organizations are adapting to the realities of evolving cloud threats.
