Certification News

Learn. Certify. Succeed!

The Symantec Certification program offers credentials in cyber security that span the breadth of Symantec solutions. As we continue to update the program, we will deliver enhancements, including new certification exams, a consistent set of exam preparation materials, and digital credentials.

Symantec Beta Exams

From time to time, Symantec offers exams during a "try-out" or Beta period. These Beta exams are open for a short period of time, typically 10 days, with a goal of having 60 or more participants complete the test. For a limited number of candidates, Beta exams are free.

Beta exams are used to collect data on the performance of the test items. The statistical results of the test items' performance, along with the candidates' comments and feedback, assist Symantec in selecting effective test items to build and release the production test, which is the final version of the exam.

SCS Naming and Expiration Policy

Symantec has introduced a new SCS expiration policy starting with the CloudSOC - version 1 SCS exam credential. SCS exams will expire after 24 months from the date a credential was achieved. After 24 months, candidates may have the option to complete Symantec eLearning continuing education in order to extend their existing SCS credential for 12 months (i.e., a candidate can hold an active SCS credential for a total of 36 months from the date achieved). Or, candidates will have the option to pass a newer version of an SCS exam and remain valid for 24 months from the date achieved.

What's also different is that going forward Symantec will name and track exams differently depending on if there is a "product" version versus if the cloud technology is "versionless". For example, since CloudSOC is a "versionless" technology, the SCS exam name will track to an "exam" version [versus a "product" version] (e.g., CloudSOC - version 1). Effective April 2019, "versionless" exams will also align to the course releases (e.g., CloudSOC - R2).

You Earned It, Now Share It!

Did you know that earners that post certifications on their LinkedIn profile are viewed six times more than those that don't?

Symantec has partnered with Acclaim, a part of Pearson, to recognize your knowledge gained along the learning journey with badges and digital credentials that will result in greater visibility for customers and partners that publish their credentials online. Digital credentials are earned by passing an SCS Certification exam. In addition to receiving a PDF certificate, you will receive a digital, shareable, and verifiable credential that you can post across various social media platforms.

There is NO FEE for this service! Benefits of an Acclaim badge or digital credential include:

  • A web-enabled version of your credentials that can be shared online
  • A more efficient way of posting to social media platforms
  • A trusted method for real-time credential verification

Start claiming and sharing your outstanding digital credentials and badges today. Just follow these simple steps:

  • Create an account on the Acclaim website
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions
  • Claim your badge and start sharing

Legacy & New Exams

Many of the Symantec certification exams will be replaced by a newer product version of the exam as technology and trends continue to evolve. Symantec updates SCS exams approximately every 12 months depending on industry demands. Legacy exams will be retired 60 days after a newer version of the exam is released.

To prepare for certification exams, we encourage you to review the Certification Exam Page for more information. Additionally study of the course content, exam objectives, sample questions, product documentation, and on-the-job experience, are also recommended. Be cautioned that attendance in a training course does not guarantee passage of a certification exam.
